The Newspaper Association of America Foundation 2002 study, "Measuring Success", determined that parental influence is the most important factor in determining children's readership of the newspaper. The next most important factor is the use of newspapers in the child's classroom.

Parents

Many classrooms in our communities are using the News in Education (NIE) program to teach geography, history, language arts, science, math, the arts and more. The Standard-Times and Cape Cod Times publish special serialized stories and features that help teachers address state standards.

Teachers not only receive classroom sets of newspapers; they also receive frameworks-compatible teaching guides to use with the newspaper.

News in Education helps students enhance their critical reading skills, become better consumers and develop a deeper awareness of the world around them.
